Sending Direct Messages

In Ledger, a direct message (DM) is a private conversation with your teammate or guest outside of a stream. Let's say you need to ask for a teammate's availability or side huddle about a client. Instead of throwing the discussion in a stream chat where everyone can see, shoot a direct message instead.

Direct message overview

  • View direct messages from your inbox icon, located on the bottom right of the app.
  • Direct messages can be one-on-one (Direct), or you can have more than two people (Group).
  • Sending a DM is the exact same as sending a message in a stream.
  • Your inbox inbox will let you know when you receive a new message.
  • A New red notification appears next to unread DMs.

How to start a direct message from your Inbox

  1. From the inbox, click Messages.
  2. Click the + icon to Add a Message.
  3. Select teammates or invite members or guests through the email.
  4. Type your message.
  5. Click Send direct message.

The most recent message and the name of the person who sent that message will appear in the list of DMs.

How to start a direct message from a stream

Follow these steps to send a direct message to someone in the same stream as you.

  1. Click the Add people icon in the upper right corner of the stream.
  2. Find the person to send a direct message to from the list of members.
  3. Click the direct message icon next to the teammate's name.
  4. Type your message.
  5. When you're done, click Send direct message.

How to delete a direct message

  1. Select a direct message to delete.
  2. Click the ellipsis icon.
  3. Click Delete message.
  4. A warning message pops up. If you confirm to delete, proceed to click Delete.
  5. You may also click the small x located on the direct message card in your inbox, where a similar confirm step will appear.

NOTE: If one person deletes a direct or group message, it also deletes the chat from the other people's screen.
