Sending Direct Messages
In Ledger, a direct message (DM) is a private conversation with your teammate or guest outside of a stream. Let's say you need to ask for a teammate's availability or side huddle about a client. Instead of throwing the discussion in a stream chat where everyone can see, shoot a direct message instead.
Direct message overview
- View direct messages from the global Messages tab on the sidebar.
- Direct messages can be one-on-one (Direct), or you can have more than two people (Group).
- Sending a DM is the exact same as sending a message in a stream.
- Use the filter to view DMs started by you (Mine), by others (Others), or either (All).
- The notification hub will let you know when you receive a new message.
- A New sign appears next to unread new DMs.
How to start a direct message from Messages
- From the sidebar, click Messages.
- Click Add Message.
- Select a teammate or enter the email of a guest.
- Type your message.
- Click Send direct message.
The most recent message and the name of the person who sent that message will appear in the list of DMs.
How to start a direct message from a stream
Follow these steps to send a direct message to someone in the same stream as you.
- Click the Add people icon in the upper right corner of the stream.
- Find the person to send a direct message to from the list of members.
- Click the direct message icon next to the teammate's name.
- Type your message.
- When you're done, click Send direct message.
How to delete a direct message
- Select a direct message to delete.
- Click the ellipsis icon.

- A warning message pops up. If you confirm to delete, proceed to click Delete.
NOTE: If one person deletes a direct or group message, it also deletes the chat from the other people's screen.
