Have Discussions

In Ledger, conversations can happen in a lot of places. You can use the Chat tool inside of a stream for a broader discussion, Messages for a direct or group conversation, and Comments to talk about a specific topic (Task or Event).

Overview

Discussions can be more powerful with additional features. Icons below a message field give you the option to include these in your message:

  • Insert Emoji
  • Mention Someone
  • Upload Files
  • Create a poll
  • Insert a #reference
  • Send a broadcast
  • Show/Hide Formatting
  • Open AI Assist
  • Add Integrations like Zoom Instant Meeting (You'll only see this option if you enabled Zoom or other integrations)

How to post a new comment

A new comment in the chat will send notifications to all teammates in the stream.

  1. Select the space (Chat, Comments, DM) you would like to send a message from.
  2. Type your message and add any emojis, mentions, files, or formatting.
  3. When you're done, press your return key or click Send.

TIP: To add a new line in your message, press Shift + Return.

How to use threads

Thread is a great way to reply to a message while keeping your conversation organized between you and the original poster. Only the people who are involved in the thread will receive notifications for new replies. Stream members can join the thread by clicking replies and adding a reply, or you can invite teammates by mentioning their names in the thread.

  1. Hover over the message you'd like to comment on.
  2. Click the return arrow icon.

  1. Type your message.
  2. When you're done, press your return key or click Send.

To view an existing thread, click replies below a message.

TIP: You may also reply back to any comment email notification directly, should you not be on the app. You can attach files and add emojis to any email reply.

Highlight and Reply with References

Now, whether you're in a chat, working on a task, or anywhere else in Ledger, you can simply highlight the text you want to reference and click the reply icon. This action creates a direct reference to that specific comment or quote in the quick message field, making it clear exactly what you're addressing.

How it works:

1. Highlight Text: Select the text you want to reference in any chat, task, or comment.

2. Click Reply: Click the reply icon that appears.

3. Add Your Comment: Your selected text will appear as a reference in the quick message field. Add your comment, and everyone will know exactly what you're referring to.

How to read a new comment

If anything new happens in Ledger, you'll get a new notification and see a red dot on the notification hub. You will also be notified via email should you have that setting enabled.

  1. Click the notification hub in the lower right of your screen.
  2. Click a notification to go directly to that update.
  3. To clear this red dot, simply click the notification card or clear all notifications by clicking the checkmark in the upper right of the slider. You can also individually × out each notification to clear it from your hub.

By default, most of the notifications are turned on. This means you'll receive notification emails as well. Learn how to manage notifications to customize your settings. You may also subscribe to a daily digest to get caught up once a day.

NOTE: If someone else is typing a message in any comment field (Chat, DM, Comments), you'll see a typing indicator that looks like a bubble.
